At a recent function, as part of the G&S Engineering sponsored Mackay Festival of Arts in Queensland, G&S celebrated the employees who have reached 10 years of service.

Congratulations to Bevan Lang, Warren Walker and Mark Zeglio and (pictured) who were present on the night, and Marcus Otimi, Madeline Lehmann, Raymond Read and Cohen Hindley who all reached this milestone.

At this year’s presentation, G&S also recognised employee Tony Lockie for his outstanding act of kindness assisting an elderly couple who experienced a critical medical emergency whilst travelling between remote towns in regional Queensland. Tony happened upon the couple as he was travelling back from working at a mine site in the early hours of the morning and came to their assistance. Due to the stress of the situation the couple didn’t get to properly thank Tony, but they remembered he was wearing a G&S Engineering work shirt and tracked the company down via social media.

Upon receiving the email from the couple and reading the story, Mick Crowe, Managing Director of G&S Engineering said, “I was so moved by the story; it represents everything that G&S stands for in our core values of ‘going the extra yard’ and caring for others. It was imperative that we, as a business, acknowledge and celebrate Tony’s act of selflessness. I am filled with pride when I hear stories such as this involving our employees and I congratulate Tony.”

In its 30th Year, the Mackay Festival of Arts has become a staple in the central Queensland social calendar, attracting approximately 30,000 people to the G&S Engineering sponsored Wine and Food Day held at Queens Park in Mackay. G&S have supported the Mackay Festival of Arts since 1997, and became naming sponsor in 2000.

On this long history with the event Mick Crowe stated, “G&S is a Mackay grown business and we have established a strong foundation in the local community. It has always been an integral part of our culture to give back to the communities in which our people work and live, and sponsoring the Mackay Festival of Arts has become somewhat of a tradition for G&S. For me, the festival has always represented the opportunity to support the community, celebrate the year that was for G&S, recognise the long-serving and outstanding people in our business, and socialise with our colleagues, clients and industry representatives.”

G&S held their annual client function during the event at the sold out G&S sponsored Festival Comedy Club. Starring comedian Dave Hughes and local jazz band Stage 5 to round out the night, the event was a huge success and enjoyed by all in attendance.
