G&S is proudly supporting the New Ronald McDonald Family Room at Mackay Base Hospital to aid local sick children and their families.
Sean Melvin a Boilermaker from our Underground Team and his Fiancé Cara were required to temporarily relocate to Townsville when Cara went into Pre-term labour at 25 weeks. Sean was fortunate to access the Ronald McDonald house which instantly took the financial stresses away and provided a ‘home away from home’ allowing Sean and Cara to focus on the health of their baby girl Dylan. His family were able to return home after 81 days and are extremely grateful for the support they received.
Sean and Cara are now committed to raising funds towards a Ronald McDonald Family Room at the Mackay Base Hospital and when our Senior Leadership Team heard their story, they offered support by providing some exciting prizes for a Fundraising Raffle!

The Ronald McDonald Family Room Mackay will provide a homelike look and feel environment near the Children and Adolescent Unit with free services and the presence of volunteers being key mechanisms to enable family members of hospitalised children to take a break from the wards and increase their well-being.
